Memento Mori, hand-made porcelain ceramic Waratah, still life objects and prawns.
Using porcelain, I make handmade sculptures of Waratahs, orchids, and smaller native flowers employing pattern to represent earthly time. I research ancient plants, and the sanctuary National Parks and reserves offer the community. This still-life diorama symbolizes imposed rest, the slowing of time, of thought, and community movement in 2020.
Judge's comments:
An artful still life incorporating sculpture, found objects and photography that fuses native Australian flora with the Vanitas tradition, asking us to contemplate the mortality of our precious natural environment.

The Little Things Art Prize 2020 is an annual community event, established in 2015, with the goal to encourage shared reverence and celebration of the little things in life that make us feel good, bring joy and inspires feelings of gratitude. This now seems more important than ever! Now in its sixth year, LTAP2020 is a competition developed by local artist Marnie Ross and has been supported through the Woollahra Council & Cultural Grants Program.
The competition welcomes submissions by artists with varying degrees of experience and motivates the local community to come together creatively.
Artists are invited to respond to the concept of the ‘little things’ in life that make them feel happy or grateful.
This year the ceramic works will be judged by Janet DeBoos and Simone Fraser.

The Design Shop celebrates our 90 years with a brand new 9 Designers project. As part of MAG&Ms 90th anniversary, nine designers have been selected to design a unique object inspired by one of our decades, from 1930s – 2010s.
The Design Shop will profile one designer/maker per month by featuring their exclusive object and displaying their supporting products for sale throughout the year.
In April we showcase Michelle Perrett, whose elegant and intricate ceramic pieces are inspired by Margaret Preston’s botanical prints of the 1930s and the flowers found in our Australian landscape. The beautiful main object, a pair of expertly crafted flower head sculptures, speak of the calm, cool and chic interiors of the decade where native floral imagery was prominent in decorative arts and furnishings. Michelle’s work sits comfortably at MAG&M with our extensive collection of Australian ceramics.
